.ASIA is the Sponsored Generic TLD (sTLD) from Asia and for Asia.
2) Who can register for a .asia domain name and what are the special registration requirements/restrictions for .asia domain name?
Special requirements/restrictions are as below:
- Anyone (person or entity) can be a registrant of a .asia domain name in condition where registrant must meet the Charter Eligibility Requirement.
- In order to satisfy the Charter Eligibility Requirement, at least one of the Domain Contacts associated with the Domain Name (Registrant, Admin, Billing or Technical) must be a legal entity in the DotAsia Community (Based on the ICANN Asia/Australia/Pacific Region described by 73 ccTLDs; http://www.icann.org/montreal/geo-regions-topic.htm)
- Accented characters such as Ö, è , Ø and etc. will not be allow for text fields (contact name, street or city)

3) What is Charter Eligibility Declaration Contact (CED Contact)?
Charter Eligibility Requirement is the basic requirement to register a .asia domain name, at least one of the domain contact must be a legal entity in the DotAsia Community.
- The CED Contact is not an additional contact;
- The CED Contact is legal entity designated to make the Charter Eligibility Declaration;
- The legal entity may be a natural person or a juristic entity (such as corporation, partnership, public sector entities) in the DotAsia Community (within the localities described by the ICANN Asia/Australia/ Pacific (AP) Region; http://www.icann.org/montreal/geo-regions-topic.htm)
- The registrant must specify which contact to be listed as the CED Contact;
- Additional information must also be provided, these included:
- Locality of the claimed Legal Entity status
- Type of Legal Entity
- Form of Identification
- Identification Number / Code of Reference
- Other remarks
4) What is the responsibility of the Charter Eligibility Declaration Contact (CED Contact)?
In the case where the CED contact is not the registrant, the CED contact and registrant will be jointly accountable for the domain registration, responsible for responding to dispute resolution proceedings and jointly be defined as the Registered Name Holder. Nevertheless, the Registrant (Registrant Contact) will remain the "operating contact" for a domain, including for domain transfers and the reappointment of a CED Contact for a domain.

Minimum of 3 / maximum of 63 characters allowed.
6) What is the term of registration?
The term of registration is 1-10 years.

8) Can I delete a domain after registered?
Yes, partners are allowed to delete a .asia domain name after registered. However the registration fee is not refundable.
According to ICANN latest gTLDs' Add Grace Period (AGP) deletion policy which does not allow the refund of deleted domain during the Add Grace Period. Therefore, with effective 1st April 2009, all gTLDs domains (.com/.net/.org/.info/.biz/.name/.mobi/.asia/.travel) that are deleted during the AGP will not be refunded. After a .asia domain was expired, it will go through below life cycle:-
40 days renewal grace period -- > 30 days Redemption grace period --> 5 days pending delete
If partners did not renew or restore the domain name, it will be released for public re-registration approximately 75 days from the domain expiration date. Please note that domain re-registration is on first-come, first-served basis.
13) Can I initiate a registrar transfer for .asia domain name and how do I initiate the transfer?

3) What are the languages available for IDN.asia?
An IDN.asia Sunrise application is available in Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages.
4) Who is eligible to register IDN.asia domain name and what are the registration requirements under Sunrise period?
Applicant must meet the Charter Eligible Requirement as describe in Q2 and fulfill the requirements under respective Sunrise Phrases:
Sunrise 1: Governmental Reserved Name
- Activation of domain from Governmental reserved name list by respective governments or official bodies.
Sunrise 2 – Registered Mark
- Domain name applied for is an exact match with the registered trademark.
- Applicants must hold the right to a valid Registered Mark. The registration records held by the relevant trademark offices or trademark registry must shows that an applicant’s Registrant Contact is the owner or co-owner of the Registered Mark, OR. The Registrant Contact must be an assignee of the Registered Mark.
- The Registered Mark must be registered in a trademark office or trademark registry that corresponds to one of the localities described by the WIPO Standard ST.3 code.
- The Registered Mark for which the application is seeking a domain name must be applied for before 10th May 2011.
- The Registered Mark must be issued and valid as of the submission of the application.
- Submitted information must correspond to the registration records held by the trademark office or trademark registry at which the mark is registered.
Sunrise 3 – Registered Entity, Names or Extended Protection
- Registered Entity
- Applicable for registered companies/organization /etc. in the
DotAsia Community.
- Applicants must submit as part of the application complete
registration information in relation to the applicant entity that
qualifies it for the domain name applied for.
- Registered ASCII.asia Sunrise 2a names or Native Form of ASCII.asia Romanized or translated names
- A Registered Domain Holder of an ASCII.asia Sunrise Domain is
eligible to apply, IF it:
- Has participate in the original .asia Sunrise (For
ASCII.asia domains in 2007);
- Has successfully registered a domain name in the .asia
Sunrise in the SR2a phase;
- Continues to be the Registered Domain Holder of the said
ASCII.asia Sunrise Domain (and the domain continues to
carry the appropriate IPR information);
- Continues to meet the criteria (e.g is the owner of the
corresponding Registered Mark for the ASCII.asia
Sunrise Domain);
- Has demonstrated usage of the Official Translated Name
officially as a registered or unregistered trademark or
trade name; AND
- Is submitting the Official Translated Name as the Domain
name applied for.
- An ASCII.asia Romanized Domain registrant is eligible is apply if:
- The registrant is currently the Registered Domain Holder
of an ASCII.asia domain;
- Such ASCII.asia domain was registered on or before
10th May 2011;
- Such domain is a Romanised form or a transliteration of
an Asia Language based on a standard published and
recognized by a competent authority within the DotAsia
Community; AND
- he domain name applied for corresponds with the
ASCII.asia Romanized domain
Authorities and Romanization standard described above include but not limited to, for example, Pinyin in China, Romaji in Japan.
For example, given a registered ASCII.asia domain: "JiaYueBingDing.asia", applicant may apply IDN.asia in Chinese based in Pinyin Standard from China, “甲乙丙丁.asia”.
- Extended Protection
- Applicable for applicant with:
- Combination of Two or more registered Marks
- Additional of Descriptors of Goods & Services for
Domain Name Applied For
- Domain Names that were Subject of Proceedings under
the UDRP
- Combination of Registered Marks with Registered Entity

- Registered IDN.ccTLD Domain Name in Asia
- Applicable for applicant with:
- Registered domain holder of IDN.ccTLD domain name
for ccTLDs in Asia category.
- Whois information for the IDN.ccTLD must correspond
with the Registrant contact of the domain name
applied for under .asia
- Registration of the IDN.ccTLD domain name must have
been completed on or before 10th May 2011.
- Registry may request further documentation
demonstrating that the Registrant Contact is indeed the
Registered Domain Holder of the IDN.ccTLD domain
name used as the basis of an application.
5) Is there any trademark requirement and supporting document required under Sunrise period?
Additional documentary evidence is needed if registry required extra information or the information submitted is not sufficient. Any request for documentary evidence must be submitted within the time period requested. Such evidence may include, but not limited to as shown below:
Sunrise 2
- An electronic copy of an official document issued by the corresponding trademark office or trademark registry
- If the applicant is an assignee or licensee, he will be asked to provide corresponding declarations;
- An original or certified copy of any document the registry deems relevant. Applicant may also be requested to supply a certified translation (In English) if any documents that are not in the English language
Sunrise 3
- The registration record relating to the applicant entity at the relevant registry;
- Certificate of incorporation (and certificate for any subsequent change of names);
- Certificate of good standing from an official register, a competent public authority, or a notary public; or
- Others equivalent certified document indicating that the entity is duly formed and in good standing.
- The documentary evidence submitted by an applicant must clearly show that same entity as the Registrant Contact and must correspond with the domain name applied for.
6) Is there any application fee for a Sunrise application? Is the application fee refundable?
Application fee is required for a Sunrise application and note that the fee is not refundable.
7) Is the application and registration fee refundable in the event where the Sunrise application verification failed?
In the event that the Sunrise application verification has failed, the registration fee will be refunded to partner. However, the application fee is not refundable.
8) How long will the validation process take?
The total time required or specific time required for a particular application is highly dependent on a number of factors, not all of which are known at this stage, but that includes:
- The total number of applications received;
- Whether or not documentary evidence is required and whether it meets the requirements;
- The number of the request for reconsiderations.
9) Does the first-come, first-serve basis apply on the Sunrise application for IDN.asia domain name?
Sunrise 1 application will be in first-come, first-served basis.
Applications received under Sunrise 2 and Sunrise 3 phases will be treated as received at the same time, with priority maintained (i.e. SR2 over SR3). Domain name being submitted during the earlier phase will be removed from the poll of subsequence phase.
If there is only one success applicant for a domain, it will be allocated to the applicant. If more than one applicant to the same domain passes the verification process (for the same priority), all successfully verified applicants will be invited to bid for that domain in an auction.
