The latest report issued by VeriSign
Inc. (NASDAQ:VRSN) shows strong new
domain registration growth throughout
2004 continued in the fourth quarter
with 6.4 million new domain names
registered. This growth is driven
by key factors including an increasing
population of Internet users globally,
an improving global economy and the
continued importance of domain name
registrations for use in the Pay-Per-Click
(PPC) advertising market and the impact
of increasing number of domain name
auctions where users are able to bid
for domain currently registered or
that have not been renewed in the
Internet industry.
According to a PricewaterhouseCoopers
study conducted for the Interactive
Advertising Bureau, U.S. revenues
for the first six months were $4.6
billion (3.79 billion), compared with
$3.3 billion for the same period in
2003. The Internet advertising revenues
jumped 40 percent in the first half of this year is driven largely
by the growing popularity of keyword
ads tied to search results.
