Consider These Things Before You Register a Domain Part 2 5

Consider These Things Before You Register a Domain Part 2

Things to Consider Before You Register a Domain With Any Providers (Part 2)

In this blog, we will be continuing our Part 1 knowledge on things you should consider before registering a domain with any providers. If you have not read Part 1, it is recommended that you do so. Click the link below to read Part 1.

As we all know, a domain name is required for setting up a website. You need to consider many things when registering a domain name, and Part 1 outlines 5 things to consider. Here in Part 2, we outline another 5 important things you need to know, if you are actively helping your customer to register domain names.

6. Make sure of the domain renewal procedure

Every domain name has an expiry date. If the domain owner wants to retain the ownership of the domain after the said date, it must be renewed. Your job is to make sure that the domain renewal procedure of the provider is clear, easy and transparent. You need to ensure the provider communicates clearly and transparently about the renewal rate, and the step-by-step process of going through the renewal process. You need to consider if they offer easy options for you to either auto renew the domain, or provide punctual notifications to renew the domain name manually, or an easy process to cancel the renewal.

It will not be ideal if the provider does a poor job for its domain renewal process, whereby you forgot to renew, or their renewal process is difficult and confusing, or you are shocked by the renewal rate etc. Such things might result in you losing your perfect domain name. It is recommended to choose providers who provide accurate, punctual and transparent notifications for the domain name renewal process.

At WebNIC, we ensure transparency in our domain renewal process. We state clearly the renewal rate, we provide a clear and easy to use dashboard for doing or cancelling the renewal process, we also make sure to always provide in time notifications to inform domain owners to renew their domain names.

7. A crucial factor – customer support experience

When you register a domain name, you have to consider the customer support experience provided by the domain registration service provider as well. It plays a big part and it makes a huge difference to your experience. We have all been there, and it is very unpleasant when you need help to solve an issue urgently, and yet the provider responds to you at a very slow pace. Even worse, some providers might not have anyone there to assist you. It really is the worst ever possible experience you will have if the provider’s customer support service is very poor.

We at WebNIC make it our priority to provide a high-quality customer support experience to all our partners. We are ISO-certified and our standard operations procedure (SOP) ensures that every single support request from our partners are handled within 24 hours. We also provide live chat customer service.

8. Be aware of domain slamming, registrar-lock and auth-code

As mentioned in point number 3 in Part 1, when a user registers a domain name, his/her contact info will be recorded in the WHOIS database. Spammers and marketers will then use programming robots to “mine” this info from the WHOIS database and send the owners tons of spam mails. The contact info will be exploited, if the domain registration provider does a lousy job in protecting it. Therefore, this is why you should take this into consideration when registering a domain name with any provider, to ensure that the provider provides sufficient protection on this aspect.

Another possibility that might happen that is related to the contact info is that some domain registration providers will also “mine” the contact info from the WHOIS database. They then send an email to the contacts, attached with documents similar to a renewal invoice to trick the domain owners to remit payment for their domain renewal. Unsuspecting, the domain owners will make the payment and without realising it, they have initiated a domain transfer. They have been slammed, hence the term domain slamming, also known as domain hijacking. The worst thing that might happen after an event like this is that their websites and email services will come crashing down and become out of service, because the DNS services are terminated from the original provider.

To counter the issue of domain slamming and unauthorized domain transfers, some providers’ domains run on a protocol called “EPP”, and to transfer a domain, an auth-code is required. It is like an extra layer of protection to protect a domain from unauthorized transfer. You need to make sure that the provider offers such protection for the domain name you wish to register. However, extra protection like this works as a double-edged sword, as it can also be used by providers to prevent you from transferring. All they need to do is not provide you the auth-code if you truly need it for transferring your domain name. It is good to make sure that the provider you choose have auth-code protection, and in addition you can truly control it freely on your own.

WebNIC offers free WHOIS privacy and protection, as well as auth-code protection. We have also configured our system to allow you to freely control them on your own through our partner dashboard. You can feel at ease, knowing that our protection will prevent spam mails and domain slamming issue from happening on you.

9. Beware of domain expiry sniping

There is also a thing called domain aftermarket, where people buy and sell registered domain names. It is also big business and can fetch thousands, or even up to millions of dollars. The ideal situation should be that when it comes to your domain names, you are the rightful owner with full control over them, and if someone is interested in them, you are the one selling it to them personally. However, some providers will take advantage of their customers and actively check out the domain names they register to see whether any of them can fetch a premium price in the aftermarket. These kinds of providers are essentially researching advance interest for their customers’ domain names and what kind of price they can fetch. Then when the domain names near expire, they have determined that the domain name is worth more than the owner’s actual renewal is worth to them, and intentionally not remind the owner of the expiry, so that they can snipe it and make it theirs. Make sure to steer clear of providers like these, and ensure that you are always notified about domain name expiry as mentioned in point 6 above.

At WebNIC, we make it our commitment to protect and safeguard our partners’ registered domain names, and ensure that they have full control over their domain names. We do not engage in domain expiry sniping and we always make sure to send domain name expiry notifications to all of our partners.

10. Domain Parking and Monetization

You might not be aware that domain parking is also big business, but it truly is. Domain parking is the act of registering a domain name, but not using it for any services such as an email or a website. You might then ask, how is a thing like this big business? The secret lies in monetizing all the parked domains with ads. You might experience this before, whereby you click a link to somewhere or made typo errors when entering a web address, the browser then shows you a somewhat empty page or search page, and popping up dozens of ads. That is what we called a parked domain and monetizing it with ads.

WebNIC is committed to full transparency and trustworthiness. Our partners have full control over their own domain names, and whether they want to monetize them or not. Our partners’ trust is our priority.

Conclusion

So, there you have it, a total of 10 points combining Part 1 and Part 2 here about the things you need to consider before you register a domain with any providers. Therefore, we would like to kindly remind you to take note of all these things when starting your domain registration business. Be sure to keep them in mind. We hope they are informative for you and you have a clearer understanding that there is more to it than meet the eyes, when it comes to domain registration business. Fortunately, WebNIC is a trusted domain registrar with more than 20 years of experience in the domain wholesale and reseller service. We make sure to provide high transparency and trust to our partners without taking part in any of the unethical actions as mentioned above. In addition, we offer a wide range of domains to help our partners to become a domain reseller and grow their domain business with us, we also work hard to provide a high transparency level and most importantly, a high level of trust and service quality to all our partners. You should choose WebNIC as your preferred registrar to work with for your domain registration business!

Consider These Things Before You Register a Domain 6

Consider These Things Before You Register a Domain

Things to Consider Before You Register a Domain With Any Providers (Part 1)

Setting up a website requires an essential step, which is registering a domain name. It is even more so important now as the Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the process, where many businesses are moving online and therefore registering their preferred domain names. The domain name registration industry has evolved a long way since more than 30 years ago. It has become so huge that it is now a billion-dollar industry. As of the first quarter of 2020, there are well over 365 million domain names registered. It shows that people around the world are actively registering domains and the number of registered domain names are slowly but steadily increasing. If you are actively helping your customer to register domain names, here are 10 the (or 5) things you need to consider before you register a domain with any providers.

1. Be Cautious of the Advertised Cost

Domain registration providers like to display an attractive low price to draw the interest of users who are looking to register a domain. It is their marketing tactic and it is widely used by many providers. However, most of the time, the unbelievable low price displayed is for the first-year registration fee only. The real and hidden cost of annual renewal is usually at a much higher price, and many users who are attracted by the low price rush to register, only to after that discover the steep increase in renewal cost. Make sure to be extra careful and check the real cost of registering and the annual renewal cost of the domain name!

At WebNIC, we make sure to show the original price beside our advertised price for high transparency, as shown here in our promotion page.

2. Beware of Hidden Fees

Registration fee is a consideration factor, but so are hidden fees. Some providers take advantage of the fact that most users tend to be lazy to read the “Terms & Conditions” and add in these extra charges in it. Hidden fees can include many things, most notably for the below scenarios:

“Upsell” and “cross-sell” for domains or services that the user might not actually need. One example is automatic selecting other domain extensions for the user’s selected .COM domain (auto tick .NET, .ORG). Or cross-sell other unnecessary services, which he/she might not need at the moment.

“Transfer-out” fees. Some providers secretly charge a processing fee if the domain owner decides to transfer his/her domain name to another provider. It is against the policy of ICANN and if you happen to come across this situation, be sure to report the provider to ICANN. Less ethical providers might also intentionally complicate the process and charge you a service fee to help you perform the transfer-out process.

“WHOIS or RDAP” fees. Some unethical providers also charge extra fees on processing WHOIS or RDAP info. For example, if the domain owner wishes to update the email address in the WHOIS database, an unethical provider will charge him/her to do so.

Note that hidden fees are not limited to these only, but it might also include many other questionable charges, some even to the extent of too ridiculous to comprehend. Be sure to be on the lookout for such providers.

We at WebNIC do not intentionally hide extra charges in our Policy & Agreement. We state clearly applicable charges and do not charge users unnecessarily.

3. WHOIS Privacy

Every domain name owner’s info is recorded in a public database, WHOIS. The info can include the owner’s full name, email address, phone number, address and more. The info is easily accessible by the public by doing a domain search on WHOIS. It is sensitive info and hence most of the good reputation registrars will offer WHOIS privacy protection for free. Make sure to stay away from providers who charge you a fee for this feature. A good domain registration provider allows you to freely change your WHOIS privacy settings easily for free.

Beware of providers who also offer “privacy services” by offering to put their details instead of the domain owner’s details on the WHOIS database. This approach secretly gives them ownership of the domain instead of the original domain owner, and it is a disguise of the so-called “privacy services”. Essentially, they own the domain and they can secretly sell it should they see more value in selling it rather than retaining it for the domain owner. If a dispute case occurs, it is almost a guaranteed outcome that the original domain owner loses the case, regardless of whatever “Terms & Conditions” outlined by the providers. It is because the provider owns the name in the WHOIS database.

Another thing to look out for regarding WHOIS privacy is the price trap. Some providers promote on the surface free WHOIS privacy, but it comes with a catch. They configure their system to offer free for the first year, but when the domain renews, it then resets at a much, much higher fee. There are also cases where it is free for the first month, but from the second month onwards, it resets to a higher fee. Be sure to watch out for charges like these, as mentioned in point number 2 above.

WebNIC offers free WHOIS privacy service as stated in our Policy & Agreement. We do not charge hidden fees and we also make it easy for our partners to edit their WHOIS settings through our partner dashboard.

4. Data Protection

Some providers fail to protect a domain owner’s information by not offering a proper WHOIS privacy service, causing his/her data to be susceptible to exploitation by hackers and scammers. Sometimes, they make it even worse by taking advantage of the data they have on a domain owner when he/she registers a domain with them. Not only do they force domain owners to pay a premium for “privacy services”, they also sell the domain owner’s data to third-parties, such as marketing companies for a profit.

At WebNIC, we make it our commitment to protect and safeguard our partners’ data and their respective customers’ data. Our privacy policy clearly outlines our obligations to our users.

5. The Multi-year Registration Package

If you are registering a domain through a multi-year package because it’s cheaper, be sure to confirm your registration years after paying the registration fee. Some providers offer multi-year on the surface, but secretly helps the user to register 1 year only, pocketing the remaining money. Usually, providers offer plans like this with a strict no refund policy. An awkward situation might then occur whereby they provide poor customer service up to the point that it drives the customer away. In the end, they pocket 5 years’ worth of registration fee but only paid for a 1-year registration, which is most often at a hugely discounted price, further reducing their cost. They stand to gain more money through this unethical approach. Make sure to steer clear of snake providers like these.

WebNIC is committed to full transparency and trustworthiness while working with our partners. We deliver what we promise, and we place trust as our first priority in providing all of our services.

Conclusion

There are still more things to consider before a user registers a domain with any providers. The 5 points mentioned here are just Part 1. Do stay tune for part 2. Therefore, before you start selling domain registration services, make sure to keep these things in mind when choosing your preferred domain partner. The great news is, WebNIC is a trusted domain registrar with more than 20 years of experience in the domain wholesale and reseller service. We do not engage in any unethical actions as mentioned in this article here. Not only do we offer a wide range of domains to help our partners to become a domain reseller and grow their domain business with us, we also work hard to provide a high transparency level and most importantly, a high level of trust and service quality to all our partners. If you are still wondering which registrar to work with, then WebNIC is your best choice!

What is a Domain Name Server (DNS) and How it Works? 9

What is a Domain Name Server (DNS) and How it Works?

What is a Domain Name Server (DNS)?

A DNS is a computer server that contains a database of many IP addresses and their associated domain names. It serves to translate a requested domain name into an IP address, so that the computer knows which IP address to connect to for the requested contents. The Internet is a network of connected computers, and they communicate with each other through IP addresses. A DNS plays an important role in helping us to conveniently use the Internet and it is one of the most essential foundations of the Internet as we know it today.

It is much easier for us to remember a domain name, webnic.cc, rather than a string of numbers, 104.20.73.209 (IP address) to WebNIC’s website. Both the domain name and the DNS are extremely important and they work together to make this possible. Read our blog here if you are unsure what is a domain name.

A great example is to see a DNS as a phone book, which matches a name to a telephone number. You can search for the name you want and find the corresponding phone number. It is also a similar concept to your smartphone’s contact list, which will match a contact name to a phone number. Remembering domain names is definitely easier for us than to remember a string of numbers. DNS helps us to do this by match domain names to IP addresses, and simplifies our web surfing experience significantly.

How Does a DNS Work?

A DNS starts working immediately after a user enters a domain name in the address bar of a browser. It will search through the Internet to find the IP address that is associated with the entered domain name. After successfully identifying the IP address, it then guides the user’s browser to connect to it, which will then serve the requested website contents. The process happens very quickly with little delay and the user will be on his requested website almost immediately. However, in the background, a DNS has executed many processes.

The first step that a DNS does is to send a DNS query to several other DNS servers. A DNS is not just a single server responding to over billions of domain name requests, but instead it is distributed globally across a network of DNS, which stores the IP address directory in a distributed manner.

With this in mind, all the DNS servers work together to attend to the billions of domain names requests worldwide. The reason behind this is to cut down the time for users to get a response for their requests. If a user is looking for a specific site and there is only one DNS server to process it, then it will take significantly longer to search through the millions of records in the directory. What if at the same time there are also millions, if not billions of users who are also doing the same? That is going to take a long time, and the users’ browsing experience will definitely be affected negatively.

Therefore, DNS is set up to work collaboratively across several servers to provide the best browsing experience to users. When a website address is entered by a user in an Internet browser, a DNS query is initiated and a DNS server sends the query to several other DNS servers, each tasked with translating a different part of the domain name the user entered. There are mainly four servers which work together to translate the website address into a computer readable IP address, namely the DNS Resolver server, the root server, the Top-level Domain (TLD) server and the Authoritative Name Server. The DNS Resolver is the server who does most of the process in translating a domain name to an IP address. It receives the DNS query and in turn acts like a client to query the three other DNS servers mentioned above to translate the domain name.

It first queries the root server and the root server responds to the query by returning the IP address of a TLD server (like .com, .net, .org etc.). A TLD server stores the information for its domains, and will return the IP address of the Authoritative Name Server to the DNS Resolver. This is where the requested website is actually located. It then returns the actual IP address of the requested website to the DNS Resolver, which in turn response to the initial DNS query the actual IP address. Check out the illustration below to have a clear picture of the step-by-step processes of how a DNS work.

What is a Domain Name Server (DNS) and How it Works? 10

Another point worth mentioning is point number 9 as shown in the illustration. The DNS Resolver will perform a caching function to cache the data for a limited time, after it has retrieved the correct IP address for a given website. The purpose of doing so is that in case the user requests for the same domain name again, it can immediately direct the user to the right web server without having to do the entire process of translating the domain name again. It is also beneficial in a sense that if there are other users who request for the same domain name, their request can be processed instantly, and they can enjoy a great browsing experience.

The Importance of a DNS

DNS helps to increase the efficiency of organising and locating more than 300 million domain names and their corresponding IP addresses around the world. It is not hard to see why DNS is an important foundation of the Internet we know today. The many DNS servers around the world work together to provide an optimised Internet browsing experience. The DNS system has been in existence for more than 30 years and has proven to be a stable and essential part of the Internet infrastructure to connect the world globally. However, hackers are also taking advantage of the system to exploit and scam the public through DNS attacks.

DNS Attacks

DNS attacks can occur in a few ways. The most common way is through malware attacks on a user’s computer. A malware attack can change the DNS server settings of the user’s computer to connect to a hacker’s DNS server. The hacker’s server can then direct users to other fake websites, and scam them of their confidential information such as their identity information, bank information or any other forms of sensitive information. This kind of attack is known as a DNS cache poisoning.

Another way of DNS attack is bombarding the user’s computer with high-volume data from DNS Resolver servers. It will cause the victim’s machine to be overwhelmed with data inflow and it will become inoperative to provide its original services. Hackers can then blackmail victims or force them to pay ransom to release their machines from the attacks. This kind of attack is known as a DNS reflection attack.

Last but not least, DNS attack can also occur through system resource exhaustion. Hackers can clog the DNS infrastructure of Internet Service Providers (ISP) of users and render it inoperative. This is done by hackers through registering a domain name and using the victim’s DNS servers as that domain’s authoritative server. They then send large number of requests for the domain and also add in large number of non-existent subdomains requests, which leads to a flood of the DNS resolving processes, eventually crashing the victim’s DNS system. This kind of attack is known as DNS resource exhaustion attack.

Conclusion

The existence of DNS is truly a great thing, as this technology makes everything on the Internet we know today possible. Without DNS, the Internet surfing experience will likely be very painful and extremely troublesome. The Internet and the world we know today will probably be very different without DNS. Next time when you browse the Internet, make sure to appreciate the existence of DNS and realise how convenient it has made life for us all. Make sure to also take proper measures to protect your computer to prevent DNS related attacks by hackers.

.TECH Domains Help Differentiate Tech Brands 11

.TECH Domains Help Differentiate Tech Brands

.TECH Domains Help Differentiate Tech Brands

.TECH has achieved a remarkable achievement for the last 5 years since its launch in March 2015. It has been a great journey for this New generic Top-Level Domain (gTLD). It has resonated well with the tech communities internationally and is a popular domain choice for them. Even big brands are starting to love .TECH domain, such as CES (ces.tech), Intel (insight.tech), Viacom (viacom.tech) It is the perfect domain name to differentiate tech brands in the saturated Internet landscape. Some tech brands who are doing well with .TECH domain include innoviz.tech, aurora.tech and lightly.tech.

Why Should Tech Brands Differentiate Themselves With .TECH?

The most obvious benefit of using .TECH domain is its profound use across industries like retail, finance, media and across technologies like machine learning, autonomous solutions, blockchain and more. Tech brands no longer need to settle for dull domain names and instead get the opportunity to use business-relevant domain extension and brand themselves in whatever way they prefer.

Here Are Some Ways .TECH Differentiate Tech Brands

1. Reinforce Brand Positioning as a Technology Business
Brand positioning is an essential business strategy. It is crucial for any business to position its brand strategically so that it sends the right message to potential clients. For example, if a company offers technology solutions that are in demand. Using company.tech positions it strategically compared to company.com, drawing attention from the right audience.

2. Great Opportunity to Secure a Keyword Rich Domain Name
Choose a domain name with industry-relevant keywords. A new domain extension provides the chance to secure important industry keywords, which are no longer available on traditional domain names such as .com or .org. For example, cleanenergy.tech is more likely than cleanenergy.com to be available, and the business can secure the keywords “clean energy” using .TECH.

3. Increases Business Relevance in Your Website Address
Tech is an intuitive word and full of context in business and innovation. It is precisely why .TECH domain is a logical choice for tech brands to differentiate themselves from other businesses. For example, a brand name can go by Orange. If the brand’s website is www.orange.com or www.orange.tech, the former name clearly does not communicate business nature while the latter name clearly communicates it is a tech business. Using a .TECH domain extension clearly increases the context of the business.

Conclusion

.TECH is a great domain to differentiate tech brands. The meaning of the word helps them to stand out and identifies them as businesses changing the world with pioneering tech ideas. What is a Thai IDN .TW Domain and What are Its Benefits 12

What is a Thai IDN .TW Domain and What are Its Benefits

What is a Thai IDN .TW Domain Name?

A Thai IDN .TW domain name is a special domain name which uses Thai characters. It is an internationalized domain name (IDN), which enables people to use local languages for domain names. Local languages are usually represented in special characters and not written with the twenty-six letters of the basic Latin alphabet “a-z”. IDN domains can come in various languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, Cyrillic, Devanagari, Hebrew, French, and in this context Thai.

An example of a Thai IDN .TW domain name:
ภาษาไทย.tw

Check out some example websites we created, which use Thai IDN .TW domain name:

The Importance of a Thai IDN

Thai IDN was approved for implementation by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) in August 2010. ICANN realises the importance of IDN, regardless of which language it is. Some community in the world have little to no knowledge of English and this makes it hard to introduce them to the Internet, which is mainly in English.

According to a survey done by education company EF Education First, Thailand ranks a level of very low proficiency in its English skills. As the Internet is mainly in English, this will indirectly impact the progress of introducing it to the Thai community. It will hinder them from being digital savvy and causes them to be left behind in this society where the Internet has become the backbone of the society. The Thai community might face a weaker competitive edge and lose out in this Internet driven society.

However, things have changed a lot ever since the introduction of Thai IDN. The obstacle to navigate the Internet in English has been largely reduced for the Thai community. This is made possible with the introduction of Unicode to represent the special characters of languages which are not in alphabets. It is also the technical which made any IDN possible. As a result, contents on the Internet is increasingly available in local Thai with the introduction of Thai IDN. The below illustration shows the positive result of introducing a Thai IDN to the Thai community.

Many of them are not proficient in English, which the Internet is mainly in, and this has become an obstacle for them. Therefore, the main benefit of using a Thai IDN domain name and Thai characters on the Internet is that the Thai community can enjoy the Internet more than ever, without language restrictions.

Unique and strongly distinguishable

Using a Thai IDN helps websites to stand out in the saturated Internet landscape, because Thai characters are unique and strongly distinguishable, compared to alphabets. The benefit of using a Thai IDN domain name is to have a unique and strongly distinguishable domain name to attract Thai audience.

High name availability

In addition, the Thai IDN domain name space is also less saturated, resulting in a high name availability, if compared to other well-known domain extensions such as .COM, .ORG, .NET and others. People who try to register for a Thai IDN domain name will discover that their desired names can be easily registered, thus enjoying lesser worries about the domain name being taken and the need to come up with alternative names. Using popular keywords in the domain name is also more likely to success for businesses who want to target keywords of their industry, as the competition is lower. The benefit of using a Thai IDN .TW domain offers a high name availability for registrants and businesses.

The Qualities of a Reliable and Trustworthy Domain Registrar 14

The Qualities of a Reliable and Trustworthy Domain Registrar

What is a Domain Registrar?

A domain registrar is a party which sells domain names and is responsible for handling everything about domain names. It plays an important role when it comes to any domain names transactions, namely registration, renewal and transfer. A domain registrar is responsible for submitting a domain name registration to a domain registry, and to ensure the successful domain name registration by an individual or a company.

Every website comes with a domain name. Therefore, starting a new website requires registering a domain name, and a domain registrar facilitates this essential process. Read more about what is a domain name and how it works here.

What Does a Domain Registrar Do?

As mentioned above, a domain registrar helps to update the domain name record managed by a domain registry. Every domain name has its corresponding registration data to keep track of who the owner is, and this data is stored in a database. A domain registry maintains the infrastructure for the database, and a domain registrar is charged with the task of updating the registry’s database on all domain name registrations, renewals and transfers.

When a user registers for a domain name, the domain registrar has to handle the process of creating or updating the info in the database of a domain registry. As part of the process, it is also required to provide all the tools for a user to perform any domain name related actions, such as searching for a domain name, availability of the domain name, renewal or transfer and also the financial transaction with the user, as well as to help users to maintain their domain name subscription over time.

A domain registrar usually allows users to do annual renewal of domain names and encourages them to register multi-year subscription for the domain names. A domain registrar also offers back end dashboard for users to perform management actions for their domain names. They can get an update on the status of their domain names, perform renewals, check billing and make configurations such as email reminders in the dashboard.

In summary, a domain registrar plays a vital role in the process of registering, renewing or transferring domain names. The experience of dealing with a reputable one and a lousy one can vary a lot and it is recommended to always choose a reputable domain registrar. Be sure to look out for the qualities below for a reliable and trustworthy domain registrar.

The Qualities of a Reliable and Trustworthy Domain Registrar

ICANN Accredited

An important factor to consider when you are registering a domain name is to make sure the domain registrar is ICANN accredited. ICANN stands for the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, and it is the organisation in charge of regulating the domain name industry. Having this qualification is equivalent to being certified by ICANN to perform everything related to domain names transactions. An ICANN accredited domain registrar has to abide by ICANN’s prescribed rules and regulations to protect domain name buyers’ best interests. ICANN accredited is a sign of a trustworthy domain registrar.

Transparent Pricing Structure

Another factor to look out for is the pricing of the domain registrar. A quality and trustworthy domain registrar is transparent about the registration price, the transfer price and the annual renewal fee upfront. Most domain registrars will advertise a cheap first year registration price for their domain names, however users should check to be sure that they are also transparent about the transfer fee and annual renewal fee as well. A reliable and trustworthy domain registrar does not charge any hidden fees that is deliberately made unknown to users. It made sure that users are well-informed about the pricing structure before registering a domain name with them.

Full Domain Control

The next factor to look out for in a reliable and trusted domain registrar is that it allows users full control of their domains. As mentioned above in what does a domain registrar do, it usually provides users with a control panel that can let them perform management of their domains. They can easily and freely execute transactions for their domains such as renewal, transfer, forwarding, billing or any technical functions through the control panel. A good sign of a reliable and trustworthy domain registrar is it offers this benefit to its customers, giving them full domain control.

Quick and Reliable Customer Support

In addition, another factor to look out for in a reliable and trustworthy domain registrar is that it provides a strong customer support service. It ensures that support is easily available, quick and reliable. It also makes sure support can be reached through many different channels, such as live chat, email or social media, allowing customers to enjoy an easy and pleasant customer support experience anywhere online.  A reliable and friendly support team is in place to help solve any issues that might arise from their domain names. One way to distinguish a reliable and trustworthy domain registrar is to go through its customer support experience to confirm it meets all the requirements above.

Extra Value-added Services

Last but not least, another factor to be considered as a reliable and trustworthy domain registrar is to look at the extra value-added services it offers. Most of the reputable ones will usually offer these services to enhance their customers’ satisfaction. Some services that they offer include domain name privacy, security monitoring, expiry reminders, auto-renewals, email addresses, multi-year purchase option and more. A reliable and trustworthy domain registrar is serious in serving their customers and will almost always offer extra value-added services for free or at a minimal cost.

Conclusion

A domain registrar plays a crucial role in the process of registering, transferring or renewing domain names. Therefore, it is important to choose a reliable, reputable and trustworthy domain registrar. The customer experience can vary hugely, depending on their reputation and experience in the industry. To enjoy a great customer experience, make sure to select only a domain registrar that is ICANN accredited, has a transparent pricing structure, offers full domain control, has a quick and reliable customer support and offers extra value-added services.
