What is ShieldMX service?

ShieldMX service is a value added email filtering service. The ShieldMX service is able to detect and filter spam/junk emails up to 99%, and has less than 0.00001% of false positive rate. Subscribing to the service does not require any backend commitment on your side, and no maintenance is require throughout the lifespan of the service.

How do I subscribe to the ShieldMX service?

The ShieldMX service will be offered under different packages. Each package will have a limited number of clean emails entitled to the domain and is valid for ONE year. You may subscribe to the service according to your needs via the below steps:

  • Login to your partner central at http://www.webnic.cc;
  • Under VAS Manager section;
  • Click on VAS Shopping Cart;
  • Under Product Category, select “ShieldMX”;
  • Select the Shield Mail package that you wish to subscribe to;
  • You may subscribe to more than one package at the same time;
  • Click on checkout and confirm the payment.

When the domain is added to the ShieldMX package, the domain will be subject to a consistency check. The domain is entitled to use the ShieldMX service only if the domain has passed the consistency check.

Domain fail to pass the consistency check will be removed from the package, therefore, please ensure that the domain is in REGISTERED status, and the Mail server IP has been added to the record immediately after the domain is added to the package.

Subscription fee will be charged upon subscription of the package, while the renewal fee will be automatically deducted from your reseller account when the domain has exceeded 90% of the threshold of the total clean email entitled, or has reached one year term, whichever comes first.

When the package is renewed, another year will be added on top of the renewal date. If the domain did not consume the number of clean emails entitled within one year, the remaining number of clean emails will be cancelled.

What is a consistency check?

During a consistency check, the system will check whether the domain is registered, and whether the mail server is ready to accept email for the domain.

In order to pass the consistency check, the domain must be in REGISTERED status. When the domain has been added to the ShieldMX package, immediately the mail server IP for the domain must also be added to the package.

For the domain fail to pass the consistency check, the domain will be removed from the ShieldMX package, and will not be able to use the service.

How do I configure the domain after I have subscribed for the ShieldMX service?

Upon subscription for the ShieldMX service package, you may add the domain and its mail server IP via the below steps:

  • Login to your partner central at http://www.webnic.cc;
  • Under VAS Manager;
  • Click on VAS Management Tool;
  • Search for the package that you have subscribed;
  • Key in the domain and the mail server IP.

* Please note that once the domain is added to the service, the domain is unable to be removed or changed to other domain

In order for the ShieldMX services to take effect on the domain, the domain must also be pointed to our dedicatedMX record as below:

mxA.shieldns.net
mxB.shieldns.net

The MX record will take effect within 24-48 hours (depends on ISP refresh time) after it is configured.

Kindly note that package subscription does not automatically activate the ShieldMX service – the domain must be pointed to our dedicatedMX record, and the mail server IP need to be register to the system for the service to be active.

Can I define what email to be filter and the action of the filtered email?

Yes. There are 3 preset filtering rules available:

Best Practice – All bad type emails (e.g.: bulk, spam, porn, virus, dangerous) will be rejected, only clean emails will be accepted.

Tag & Deliver – Email subject will be tagged according to its type (spam, advertisement, etc) and will be sent to recipient, but virus, dangerous, porn and bulk type email will be rejected.

Accept Bulk – Bulk email will be accepted as well, email subject will be tagged, virus and dangerous email will be rejected

Can I subscribe the ShieldMX service for domains not under my reseller account?

You may subscribe the ShieldMX service for domains manage under other sponsoring registrar. However, if the domain is manage under WebNIC as sponsoring registrar, the domain needs to be managed under your reseller account in order to subscribe for the service.

Can I define the sender of the email? If yes, how can I do so?

Yes, you may whitelist the IP or email address for trusted sender, or blacklist the IP or email address for sender from unknown source.

You may configure the above settings via the below steps:

  • Login to your partner central at http://www.webnic.cc;
  • Under VAS Manager;
  • Click on VAS Management Tool;
  • Search for the domain;
  • Click into the domain.

Can my customer able to manage their email account settings on their own?

Yes, your customer is able to perform the above configuration via the web address manager:

https://wam.manage.name

Do I have to use your MX record if I want to subscribe to the ShieldMX service?

Yes, the domain MUST point to our dedicated MX record in order for the ShieldMX service to work. The MX records are as below:

mxA.shieldns.net
mxB.shieldns.net

What are the fees for the ShieldMX service?

Subscription fee will be charged upon subscription of the package, while the renewal fee will be automatically deducted from your reseller account when the domain has exceeded 90% of the threshold of the total clean email entitled, or has reached one year term, whichever comes first.

When the package is renewed, another year will be added to the package. If the domain did not consume all the clean emails entitled, the remaining clean emails will be cancelled.

Please ensure your reseller account has sufficient credit when the package is being renewed. In the event that your reseller account has insufficient credit during renewal, the ShieldMX service will be unsubscribed automatically.

Can I unsubscribe the ShieldMX service? If yes, how?

Yes, you may unsubscribe by following the below steps:

  • Login to your partner central at http://www.webnic.cc;
  • Under VAS Manager;
  • Click on VAS Management Tool;
  • Search for the package that you have subscribed;
  • Tick “Unsubscribe” and submit.

ShieldMX service unsubscription must be performed before the number of clean emails reached 90% threshold or 15 days before the service package ends. If the domain has reached or exceeded the threshold stated above at the point the service is unsubscribe, the package will be extended for another year and the service will be terminated on the next expiry date.

Upon unsubscribe of the service, the subscription fee for that contract year is not entitle for refund. The service will stop within one working day after the service is unsubscribe.

Upon unsubscription of the service, you are advise to remove our dedicated MX record accordingly.
