The SSL (Secure Socket Layer) protocol is the web standard for encrypting communications between users and websites. Data sent via an SSL connection is protected by encryption, a mechanism that prevents eavesdropping and tampering with any transmitted data. Domain Validation (DV) 
Domain Validated (DV) Certificate only requires applicant to verify that he/she is the owner of the domain. The validation goes by receiving an email that is sent to the WHOIS information or email addresses belonging to that domain to verify that applicant owns the rights to use the domain. Organizational Validation (OV) 
Organization Validated (OV) Certificates requires validating applicant’s organization information to make sure it is an actual organization. They verify the Organization Name, Physical Address, and Phone Number. This data must match with the WHOIS information and also a public Government Information website or an approved Third-Party Website before being issued. Extended Validation (EV) 
Extended Validation (EV) Certificates is also known as “Green Bar” Certificates. It is recognized and known as the highest trusted type of SSL certificate. During the EV verification process, the issuing vendor or CA totally verifies that applicant is a legitimate business and in good standing above and beyond an OV verification process. Once this process is successfully completed and the applicant’s EV SSL is issued, all of the browser indicators will be activated on his/her site. The most important indicator that becomes active is the “Green Bar” in a user’s web browser which means trustworthy. WebNIC currently provide below EV Certificates:

Domain + Organization Validation
Domain + Organization Validation Certificate is considered as the most secured and trusted type of SSL certificate. This certificate not only verifies the domain owner but also requires applicant’s organization information to be validated. Besides, the EV SSL will be issued once the verification is successful. With the verification of Domain combine with Organization and the EV protection, Domain + Organization Validation Certificate will ensure the lowest risk on the site. Applicants need to have a domain name and a dedicated IP for their website in order to setup the SSL to their website.

Corporations, LLCs, sole proprietorships, partnerships, governments, and schools are eligible for EV SSL certificate. Basically any entity that is legally registered with the applicants’ local or state government may apply for it.

Depends on which product the applicants select, they can get a DV SSL Certificate within a couple of hours if they need it right away. Some products (OV, EV) require documentation to be provided for verification, therefore it takes longer processing time for verification process.

  1. As benefit to our end customers, now purchase of below SSL cert with common name will automatically get a free SAN, term applied. There are only below scenarios will be entitled to get a free SAN.



    • When the enrolled Common Name is, Symantec will automatically add as a free SAN.
    • When the enrolled Common name is, Symantec will automatically add as a free SAN.
    • For wildcard, when enrolled Common Name is *, Symantec will automatically add as a free SAN.

    However, to entitle the advantage of this enhancement, partner must not include the free SAN in the SSL certificate enrollments, else it wouldn’t be free and partner will be charged for that SAN.

SSL renewal can only be done 30 days before the expired date. Renewal made in any other period will be considered as a new order and the expired date will be revised.

Yes, you may cancel the SSL certificate after is has been issued. Refund is only available if the SSL certificate is cancelled within 30 days from the issuing date.

A SSL certificate Warranty is to provide applicant’s site extra assurance that applicants’ site is safe to conduct online business. This Warranty is payable to applicant’s site visitors who rely on the SSL Certificate and who incur losses resulting directly from an online credit card transaction as a result of a mis-issued the SSL certificate.

Because of strong validation is a need for the continuing growth of online business, therefore both that the applicant owns, or has legal right to use, the domain name featured in the application and secondly that the applicant is a legitimate and legally accountable entity should be validated before issuing a certificate. Thus, we need to have access to documentation which verifies these two factors in order to complete the validation.

Certificate Signing Request (CSR) is the encrypted text that must be generated from the server for the following use of this certificate. The information that will be included in your certificate such as your organization name, domain name, locality, and country is inside the CSR. There will also be a private key created once the CSR is created.

Applicant may contact the hosting company or Server Administrator to generate the CSR as well.


To confirm whether the CSR is correctly generated, please visit the SSL Toolbox.

Yes, you may re-issue your SSL certificate in case if the CSR information submitted in your first order is incorrect. Reissue is available for the first 30 days from creation date free-of-charge. You will need to provide a new CSR during re-issue. Reissue will be free only if the certificate details are same. You must submit a new certificate if you want to change any certificate details such as domain, organization name.

The new gTLDs (genericTop Level Domains) is the new domain name extensions that will come into the Internet world in the form of generic term. As part of ICANN’s new program, the number of gTLDs will expand from two dozen to over 1,300 new names.


SSL providers have previously approved certificates for common names / SANs which included some of these new gTLDs, which was used as internal server names / intranets at that time.


With the approval of a new gTLD, a once-internal-name may now actually be a registeredor available domain name. Existing certificates may contain domain names which certificate owners are suddenly unauthorized to use, even if the certificates are used internally-only in their environment. As such, SSL providers will revoke these certificates. Certificate owners will be required to request for a new certificate to replace the existing one.

Existing customers which had a revoked SSL certificate have below options to request for a new certificate:

  • Transition to a valid FQDN

    Replace existing certificate with a new certificate containing a valid fully-qualified domain name (FQDN) that certificate owner’s organization owns.

  • Register the domain

    Register the domain in current certificate and prove the domain ownership.
