- .au domain name must be exact match abbreviation or acronym of the entity or trading name or close and substantial connection between the domain name and the operation of the entity.
- .com.au - For commercial purposes. Includes commercial entities, currently registered and trading in Australia, as well as commercial products and services, foreign company licensed to trade in Australia, owner of trade mark, association or Australia commercial statutory body.
- .net.au - For commercial purposes. Includes commercial entities, currently registered and trading in Australia, as well as commercial products and services, Australian partnership or sole trader, foreign company licensed to trade in Australia, owner of trade mark, association or Australia commercial statutory body.

A .au domain only can be renewed a maximum of 90 calendar days before the expiry date and during the renewal grace period.

After a .au domain was expired, it will go through below life cycle:-
