.JP is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Japan.
2) Who can register for a .jp domain name and what are the special registration requirements/restrictions for .jp domain name?
Local presence (postal address of the place of residence) in Japan is required for the domain registrant contact. WebNIC can provide partners the local contact service in Japan.

3) What is the length for .jp domain name?
Minimum of 3 / maximum of 63 characters allowed.
4) What is the term of registration?
The term of registration is 1, 2 years.
However, due to the registry rules, if partners register a .jp domain for 2 years, the WHOIS record will only show 1 year registration term instead of 2 years. After the .jp domain expired for the first year, then only the Whois record will display the expiration date for the second year. Therefore, partners are advised to refer the domain expiration date from the partner central.

6) Can I delete a domain after registered?
No, partners are not allowed to delete .jp domain after registered.
7) What is the term of renewal?
- The term of renewal is 1 years;
- .jp domain can only be renewed 1 time per year for a period of 1 year;
- .jp domains are managed on a calendar month cycle, which means that all domain expiration dates will occur only on the last day of the calendar month in which it was registered and the domain's renewal will occur on the 1st of the following month;
- For example, if partners register a .jp domain on 15 January 2007, the expiration date for this .jp domain will be on 31 January 2008 instead of 15 January 2008.
8) What is the renewal grace period for .jp domain name and how do I perform a domain renewal?
- There is no renewal grace period for .jp domain name;
- The .jp domain renewal is a manual process and it required 3 – 5 business days to complete. We will notify partners on the renewal status via email;
- .jp domain renewal must be submitted 5 days before the domain expiration date;
- .jp domain will drop into a 19 days Redemption Grace Period which requires additional charges to restore the domain if no renewal submission was being submitted;
- If partners wish to restore a .jp domain, please send your request to support@webnic.cc for further assistance.

9) Any Redemption Grace Period (RGP) for .jp domain name?
Yes, Redemption Grace Period for .jp domain name is a period of 19 days. Partner may refer to “Domain Restoration” FAQ for more information.

10) How long does it takes for a domain to release to public registration after expired and not renew?
After a .jp domain was expired, it will go through below life cycle:-
No renewal grace period -- > 19 days Redemption grace period --> No pending delete
If partners send in the auto-renew cancellation request to us, we will cancel the domain renewal and the domain name will be released for public re-registration approximately 19 days from the domain expiration date. Please note that domain re-registration is on first-come, first-served basis.
11) Can I initiate a registrar transfer for .jp domain name and how do I initiate the transfer?
Yes, partners are allowed to initiate registrar transfer for .jp domain name. Please note that domain will not extend for 1 year after completion. Partner may refer to “Registrar Transfer” FAQ for more information.
12) Any charges on the domain transfer out?
Before subsequent renewal, domain want to transfer out need to pay registrar release fee equal that of one year renewal.
13) What problem(s) will delay or prevent the Registrar transfer of domain?
A .jp domain cannot be transferred if :
- The domain has been expired
- The domain is expiring within next 30 days
- A transfer request has already been made for the domain
- The domain has no valid contact e-mail address in the domain's whois information
14) Can I initiate a reseller transfer for .jp domain name and how do I initiate the transfer?
Yes, partners are allowed to initiate reseller transfer for .jp domain name. Please note that domain will be extended for 1 year after completion. Partner may refer to “Reseller Transfer” FAQ for more information.
15) How do I manage my .jp domain name for example, name protection, retrieve authorization information and etc.?

16) Can I change registrant name for .jp domain name?
Partner may change the registrant information for .JP domain name via Partner Central, no charges required.
