.VN is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Vietnam.
2) Who can register for a .vn domain name and what are the special registration requirements/restrictions for .vn domain name?
Special requirements/restrictions for a .vn domain name are as below:-
- .vn domain name is unrestricted to foreign registrants and no local presence is required;
- Only organization located in foreign country with foreign address is allowed to register .vn domain through us. Vietnam Company has address in Vietnam must register through Vietnam domestic Registrar in Vietnamese language;
- Only organization/company is allows to register 2LD .vn domain;
- Any organization or individual can register 3LD .vn domain name;
- By default, Billing contact will be WebNIC information when register a .vn domain name.
- Domain name is not entitled to include words which can violate national interests or not corresponding to social morality, lifestyle and national cultural;
- DNS modification is chargeable;
- WebNIC currently offer .vn, .com.vn, .net.vn, .biz.vn, .org.vn, .info.vn and .name.vn.

3) Are there any reserved or blocked .vn domain names?
Any of the following contents shall not be included in any domain name registered and used by any organization or individual; those:-
- Against the basic principles prescribed in the Constitution of Vietnamese Government;
- Jeopardize national security, leak state secrets, intend to overturn the Government of Vietnam, or disrupt of state integrity;
- Harm national honor and national interests;
- Instigate hostility or discrimination between different nationalities, or dispute the national solidarity;
- Violate the state religion policies or propagate cult and feudal superstition;
- Spread rumors, disturb public order or disrupt social stability;
- Spread pornography, obscenity, gambling, violence, homicide, terror or instigate crimes;
- Insult, libel against others and infringe other people's legal rights and interests; or
- Other contents prohibited in laws, rules and administrative regulations
4) What is the length for .vn domain name?
Minimum of 3 / maximum of 63 characters allowed for 2LD.vn while minimum of 1 / maximum of 63 characters allowed for 3LD.vn.
5) What is the term of registration?
The term of registration is 1 years.
6) How do I perform a .vn domain registration?
Partners may register the domain name through Quick Start Registration function. Partner may refer to “Domain Registration” FAQ for more information.
7) Can I delete a domain after registered?
Yes, partners are allowed to delete a .vn domain name after registered, however, there is no refund. Deletion of a .vn domain is a manual process, therefore will take up to 3 workings days before it can be release for public registration.
8) What is the term of renewal?
The term of renewal is 1- 10 years.
9) What is the renewal grace period for .vn domain name and how do I perform a domain renewal?
Renewal grace period for .vn domain name is 19 days, partners may renew the domain name through Quick Start Registration function. Partner may refer to “Domain Renewal” FAQ for more information.
10) Any Redemption Grace Period (RGP) for .vn domain name?
No, there is no RGP for .vn domain name. Partner may refer to “Domain Restoration” FAQ for more information.
11) How long does it takes for a domain to release to public registration after expired and not renew?
After a .vn domain was expired, it will go through below life cycle with effective from 10th January 2011 further to the policies amendment from Registry:-
19 days renewal grace period -- > No Redemption grace period --> No pending delete
If partners did not renew or restore the domain name, it will be release for public re-registration approximately 19 days from the domain expiration date. Please note that domain re-registration is on first-come, first-served basis.
12) Can I initiate a registrar transfer for .vn domain name and how do I initiate the transfer?
Yes, partners are allowed to initiate registrar transfer for .vn domain name. Please note that domain will be extended for 1 year after completion. Registrar transfer for .vn domain name required a Registrar Transfer Request form, partner may refer to “Registrar Transfer” FAQ for more information.
13) Can I initiate a reseller transfer for .vn domain name and how do I initiate the transfer?
Yes, partners are allowed to initiate reseller transfer for .vn domain name. Please note that domain will be extended for 1 year after completion. Partner may refer to “Reseller Transfer” FAQ for more information.
14) How do I manage my .vn domain name for example, name protection, retrieve authorization information and etc.?
Partners may manage domain name through User Management function. Partner may refer to “Domain Management” FAQ for more information.
15) Does WebNIC provide Internationalized Domain name (IDN) for .vn?
No, WebNIC does not provide IDN.vn domain name at this moment.
16) What are the regulations on management and usage of .vn domain name?
- To ensure that all information provided are true and correct. The required domain name shall not violate legal interest of other person(s), other illegal either purpose(s).
- Not to register domain name(s) as a speculation and sell domain name(s) in any form.
- To make the registered domain name(s) into actual use within 60 days since the activation.
- VNNIC shall reserve the right to with draw and delete any domain name violating the regulation.
